I'm About to Lose Control and I Think I Like It....

Happy May Day, everyone!

It seems I have so many things to include that I don't quite know where to begin, and will therefore in all likelihood forget a lot of it ... *Deep breath*

First of all, I'm delighted to say [err, type] I made it through the NAPOWRIMO challenge. I got behind on two of the weekends but got caught back up just in the nick of time. So that's over. Whew.

Discovery: My poetic "stride" is the equivalent of that one rhino always tagging along, huffing and puffing, at the end of those silly stampede scenes from Jurassic Park. Do you remember? The little out-of-breath rhino; that's me. I can't even begin to keep the frenetic pace required for NAPOWRIMO. Luckily I am not the norm--I ran onto so many absolutely breathtaking poets through this challenge!

So many that it makes me wonder, tentatively of course, if a longer, albeit slightly less frantic, poetry challenge would be a good idea. Sort of like The Chrysalis Experiment (such a great idea!), only for poetry; one prompt a week, one poem a week, for a year or something. I looked around a bit and haven't found one yet; is anyone game?

Either way, I'm going to do it; I realized I certainly need to work harder in the poetry area. Anyone interested in writing with me, let me know.

Let's see...what else.

Oh yes, pop culture. The big wedding. Yes, I loved the dress. Yes, when I was a tweenie I had US Weekly photos of Prince William on my wall (*gasp*--how un-American of me!).

But enough is enough. Seriously--Fox News, I'm pointing at you specifically--lay off the royal wedding. Give me a breather. E Entertainment exists for a reason; so you can turn.

Am I alone in this? Am I the Scrooge of the Royal Wedding? Very well then; I am the Scrooge of the Royal Wedding. (I am the universe, I contain multitudes.)  BAH HUMBUG! GET BACK TO WORK, YOU LOAFING NEWS TEAMS!

*sigh*

On a much more serious note, I just watched the President's address a bit ago. Apparently, Bin Laden is dead. It only took the United States military--a military which has more funding pumped into it than any other military on the planet--ten-ish years to do it. What exactly all this means, we have yet to decide.

Now before I get too political and shoot myself in the foot *looks nervously around for fmr. VP Dick Cheney*, two things of extreme, dire interest:

1.) I just baked the most bad-assed cake in the whole world. It's called "Bete Noir." Oh, so decadent.

and

2.) My radishes are about ready to harvest, and all my other plants, with the exception of one, are sprouted! (Damn rosemary. Why did I think I could pull off growing it from seed?!) Yay! Here's what's coming in the garden:
  • Radishes
  • Carrots
  • Garlic
  • Tomatoes
  • Basil
  • Lavender
  • Hybrid tea rose (hooray, winter didn't kill it!)
  • Sunflowers
  • Poppies
  • Asters
  • Lillies
  • Irises
  • Some weird, leggy cacti..?
Yippee! I'm so excited! (dO dO, dO dO!)  I just can't hide it! Just kidding. Anyway, when the weather finally stabilizes I'll plant the green beans, cucumbers, cilantro and potatoes. Yum.

Alright, I think I've crammed so much into this post it's about to burst. As I mentioned, Happy May Day everyone. Enjoy your springs and summers, and to those of you in the southern hemisphere, enjoy your falls and winters.

  1. Hey Jes ~~ I'm back !! *drum roll* & *cymbal clash*
With regards to the Royal Occasion , if you think that you are the Scrooge of the Royal Wedding then what title would you give me ? Check out my A~Z blog R-post titled 'Royal Ruminations' and tell me ...
With regards to the poetry thingie ... I'm sure I could manage a poem a week ... though my poetry is probably rusty & rotten ... will need some serious brushing up ...
    Enjoy the bad-assed cake !!
You obviously have "green fingers" to be able to plant and sustain all those veggies/flowers ...I am hopeless ... I killed a cactus once ... long ago ... don't ask me how ... I've not the foggiest notion ... I thought those plants never die ... and my hubby never lets me forget it ... tells everyone I accomplished the impossible ... so go ahead and enjoy a laugh at my expense ... it is ridiculous , after all ... a cactus ? of all the plants in existence ... *shakes head*

  2. Oh, good; I'm sure that's a huge sigh of relief! Glad to know you are up and running again. I'll hit you up after this; I tried yesterday but it was still down.

About the poetry--rusty and rotten is the new hot thing, haven't you heard? *LAUGH* I know this from experience. So you're in? I was thinking of starting next week some time. ?

The cake is already half gone. Yum. 12 oz of chocolate in one itty bitty cake. Yum yum.

I'm not so sure I have green fingers. Since the one freak heat (95!) spell and subsequent snow-and-month-of-rain-straight, I have killed the following: sunflowers, forget-me-nots, shasta daisies, tomatoes, bell peppers, zinnias, and one more that I can't remember; I just know I'm at seven. lol. This batch is round two, lol. I'm kinda worried about the cactus I've got myself...I've no idea what it is, or what it's supposed to look like, or "do" or...lol. Plus, the doggie apparently loves to taste the lavender. Together we knocked the whole plant over last night; her licking it (weirdo dog!) and me trying to stop her...lol...crash! All in good fun, though.
